The Island of Cumbrae offers excellent cycling routes suitable for all ages and skill levels.

The Round the Island Route is mainly flat and provides outstanding views of the Firth of Clyde with a completely different vista around every corner.  The distance of 10.25 miles can be completed in just 1.5 hours but most visitors take it at a more leisurely pace, stopping off to take in the panoramic views, having a picnic on the beaches or sampling the refreshments at Fintry Bay Tearoom on the west of the Island or the National Sailing School on the east side. On the way round why not call in at the museum in the Marine Station, it is full of interesting sea life and stories from the local area.

If you are happy to have a greater challenge, try the Inner Circle Route which will take you to the top of the Island and then climb up to the Glaidstane.  At 417ft above the sea level it offers a 360 degree panorama of the Firth of Clyde.
